Karin

Early Childhood Music

Though Karin joined Albuquerque Institute of Music as an Administrative Assistant back in July 2023, she has been involved in music for far longer. At about 5 years old, Karin began piano lessons with her talented grandmother. In addition to teaching her piano, her grandmother fostered Karin’s love of music by hosting frequent family sing-alongs and later teaching her the basics of organ playing. Likewise Karin’s large family avidly shared their own love of music. From attending community concerts and musicals to seeing siblings’ band and choir performances to family musical numbers at church to the regular sound of the cd player or someone practicing, music was always present in Karin’s life.

Outside of her family, Karin took a year of guitar at her high school and a couple of semesters of organ during her time at Brigham Young University. While there, Karin actually earned a degree in Landscape Management with minors in Business and Art, but she remained involved in music with a service-based performing arts group. She also enjoyed gaining teaching experience as a teaching assistant for several years.

After college, Karin explored teaching further by working as a paraeducator at Dworshak Elementary and serving as an instructor for the nursery group at her church. She currently volunteers as the children’s chorister at her church. Karin continues to study piano at Albuquerque Institute of Music with Jennifer Case Stull. Karin enjoys collaborating with other students and coworkers to perform at AIM’s recitals and the Federation Festival.

Karin is excited to begin this new chapter at Albuquerque Institute Music and to share her love of music with the area’s youngest and newest musicians.

In addition to music, Karin loves crafting, painting, reading, water sports, animals, the outdoors, and spending time with her husband and family.
