
Congratulations to Rhea Fan and Karen Zhang who performed in Carnegie Hall in New York City on May 11th, 2019. Rhea and Karen were invited to perform at Carnegie because of their audition for the Golden Key Music Festival . We would like to congratulate all our students who took part in the Jackie McGehee Young Artists Competition this past Saturday, February 16th. Each one of you performed your concertos wonderfully! A special congratulations to Jane Wei for placing 1st. Along with the $2000 cash prize, Jane will be performing with the New Mexico Philharmonic on May 25th, 2019. At this Symphony Concerto Performance, she will be playing Chopin's Concerto in E Minor, 1st Movement. Gabriel Higbie was the youngest participant at age 13 and won 3rd place and $750 for his performance of Beethoven's Concerto #1, III Rondo. Josh Shevitz received the title of "most promising musician" and a $150 prize for his beautiful performance of Bach's Concerto in D Minor. Excellent job to everybody who competed, we are so proud of you all!
On November 2nd, Ovie Nirgudkar was awarded 1st place in “The International Piano Competition Clavis Saint Petersburg 2018.” As winner of this competition, Ovie was able to perform one of her winning pieces, Tchaikovsky’s Dumka, Op. 59, in a gala concert at Sheremetev Palace in Russia. She also presented Franz Liszt’s “Unsospiro” on behalf of United States-an award she won at 2018 Carmel Klavier International Piano Competition for Young Artists. Ovie has now been invited to perform in Austria and Spain next year.
Ovie's family and our team here at the Albuquerque Institute of Music are incredibly proud of her for this accomplishment. It is such a distinct honor to perform and win at the mecca of classical music. The accolades from all the judges and music teachers at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory and Shostakovich School were emotional and well-deserved. Ovie's family would like to thank her teacher, Tatyana Bayliyeva, for her instruction and dedication. Congratulations , Ovie!

Congratulations to Ivan Belyaev for placing first at the BMTG Intercontinental Piano Competition in the Composer Prize category, earning the Elena Cobb Star Prize. The BMTG competition aims to introduce musicians to new repertoire, including works from composers who span 6 continents. Ivan won with his performance of Arabia by Elena Cobb. We are extremely proud of you and your accomplishment, Ivan!

We are so proud of Jane Wei for winning the New Mexico State MTNA competition in the Junior Piano Performance category. The NMTA competition is a national competition consisting of 3 rounds: state, regional, and national. Jane will now move on to compete at the Southwest Regional competition-- we wish her all the best! Congratulations, Jane!

Congratulations to all of our students who attended the Carmel Klavier International Piano Competition in Indiana! They came home with many awards and distinctions. Elena Cobb Star Prize
We would like to congratulate four of our piano students, Todd Miao, Christina Peng, Ovie Nirgudkar, Ivan Belyaev for winning the Elena Cobb Star Prize Winners Concert. They all performed wonderfully in London at the Royal Albert Hall on April 5, 2018 . They are the very first from New Mexico to travel abroad (London) to perform.
